Energising the Students: You Know Mrs Jones

It’s an action game with high energy. It’s like “I sent my love to the market and she bought….” with each student adding to the list and telling the rest the contents of the basket. However, here it’s all action!

First of all, get your students to sit in circle so that everybody can see each other. Afterwards, practise the dialogue below with them and explain the game. It’s very easy, and I’m sure that your students will love it.

A: Do you know Mrs Jones?

B: Yes.

A: She is dead.

B: How did she die?

A: Like this – then the student show an action plus adding all the actions that have gone before.

You can use this game to revise different sets of vocabulary just by making small changes in the dialogue. For example, instead of saying “She is dead.” you can say “She went to Alaska.” This means that your students have to think about how someone goes somewhere i.e. on foot, by car, running and so on.. They have to visualize it first and then act it out for the rest.  This makes the game appealing both for the visual and kineasthetic learners.

By the way, don’t forget to change the dialogue for your young learners, I don’t think that you want to study “the ways for dying” with them 🙂
