Although Tornado is mostly played with flashcards to revise vocabulary, I believe that it can be used to review anything 🙂
In our orientation week, I played this game with my 4th graders to make a general review of the 3rd grade. It doesn’t require much preparation, it’s fun and students LOVE it..
You just need to prepare a list of questions. It’s all up to you; you can revise vocabulary, grammatical structures or BOTH 🙂 You can use it for a speaking activity or for checking comprehension after a reading text. You can adapt it for whatever you want.
HOW TO PLAY:
- Form two groups in your classroom and decide which group answers first.
- The first group, then, chooses a number and answers the corresponding question.
- If they answer the question correctly, they can draw a line on the board to draw a house.
- If they choose a TORNADO question, they blow down the opposing team’s house drawing.
- The first team to draw a house wins.
Below you can have a look at my list – there were 50 questions of which 10 were TORNADO.
